Werewolf Parts

Yep, it's that time of the year again.

Also note the Punkin Ale above. These custom werewolf noses and ears have been selling pretty well lately in my Etsy shop.

Putting the fur and dog bone cartilage earrings on the ears...

And last but not least, pairing them up into matching sets to mail out...

I wish I was going where some of these ear and nose sets were going. Apparently there are all these werewolf parties going on across the United States that I'm not being invited to. Ah well, such is life.

Quadrophenia, Transvestitism, and more Anarchy

I got Devon from Junkman's to pose this time with my Anarchy in Purple wings. Paige took the photos in and around my apartment.

They are now for sale on Etsy.

Meanwhile at Trader Joe's I was working on stuff for the latest Flyer, which dropped yesterday. The theme was early 1960's mod, the slogan was "Be Seen on the Green." I was assigned to make the big sign for the vestibule, or front entrance. It was supposed to be some new products sunning themselves in the park with sunglasses on and avoiding the paparazzi. The color scheme was orange, avocado green, and beige. I was also meant to make two decorative pieces to flank the vestibule sign that are giant polaroid photos of the products "getting caught." This is what I came up with.

You might be able to tell I watched the movie Quadrophenia while making this. Martyn and I decided if we had lived in those days he would have been a mod and I would have been a rocker, so I guess we would have had to have had a forbidden romance. Since I seem to side with the rockers so much I had to include some of them in my vestibule sign, even though in real life mods and rockers may have sooner killed each other than relax in a park together. I guess depicting gang wars is not exactly up to Trader Joe's standards.

Speaking of Trader Joe's, recently we were promoting Goddess dressing by having two crew members dress up as Goddesses and roam the store with samples. Here they are getting ready in the break room, and why I love working in Midtown.

Stephen is the one on the left and an experienced drag queen. He had to do Danny's makeup because it was his first time. I love how nervous Danny looks in this picture.

Stephen leans back to look at his work while Danny tests it out.

The wig (or "the rat".)

Jen is in the background here "mouth breathing".

And finally, enter the Goddess!

Danny totally rocked that role. So did Stephen the following day, despite my lack of pictures.

Wings: Sex Pixie and Anarchy

I just posted two pairs of newly photographed fairy wings on DeviantArt and Etsy!

My friends Andrea and Blair modeled for us and Paige took the photos. Paige's DA

As you can see, she's great. She took many beautiful photos which she is now in the process of editing and manipulating them like she does. I snagged a couple from her where the wings are more prominent to use for my listings. Here is how they appear, complete with descriptions:

Anarchy Wings

My Anarchy wings were inspired by the punk aesthetic of the seventies and the Sex Pistols. They were built over a sturdy metal armature and measure twenty inches from back to tip. They are constructed of scraps of hand-torched faux leopard fur and destroyed red plaid that are being held together by safety pins. The lower parts of the wings are crafted of jeweler’s wire and ‘citronella’ Angelina Fusible Film. They are an extremely iridescent material that shimmers in the light and reflects all sorts of interesting colors over the intricate wire “veins” embedded inside the wings. My wings come complete with clear elastic bra straps for wearing them backpack-style over clothing. The straps are adjustable and also removable; just unhook them from the attached loops when you would like to tuck the back brace of the wings into a corset or bra for a more realistic look. My wings are flexible and durable enough to bend into a shape that properly contours your back and then stay that way. Also feel free to pose the wings upright and apart for a perkier look or tuck them down and together into a resting position for rock concerts, clubs, or eating in restaurants. *Also available in a purple, with purple and orange plaid, purple leopard fur, and orangey-pink 'raspberry sparkle' Angelina fusible film. Will post a listing when I get photos.

Sex Pixie Wings

These wings were made for a true sex kitten to wear, inspired by burlesque, New York Doll-type sleaze, and vintage lingerie. Fashioned from sturdy metal anchor wire and armature wire, they measure twenty-four inches from back to tip. My Sex Pixie wings are constructed hand-torched faux leather that have been corset-laced on both sides with hot pink satin ribbon. On the other side of the lacing is pale pink lace that has been thoughtfully shredded by my sister’s Jack Russell terrier, a true artist of destruction. When you hold the wings up to the light you can see the fine glittery dark pink plastic ‘veins’ that have been embedded within the lace. The lower sections of the wings are quite flexible and crafted from pinup-inspired sheer polka dot glitter fabric. These wings are trimmed with an assortment of recycled satin garters and loads of antique lace. They bear the signature kiss of Quarley on the upper segment of the left wing. Look carefully and you will find a several hooks and fasteners from antique garter belts dangling from the edges.

Nice Package

I still haven't had a day off over a weekend, so I still have not been able to meet with Paige and take photos of my new stuff. However, I have sold a fairy through my Etsy store--Hickey, who you may remember from an earlier post:

Yesterday I mailed her off. Now she's on her way to Germany, a place that I have scarcely even seen in photos. It's strange. Also strange that in a way I will miss that little bugger, who has been a bright dash of color atop my fairy supply taboret for quite a while now:

Someone also bought another one of my Chinese Golden dragon hatchlings on Etsy a few days later. I'm going to mail him out to California today.

I love selling creatures to people online. And I admit, I'm a bit of a nerd in the way that I also greatly enjoy packaging them and shipping them out. Every single aspect has got to be pretty, because there is something very exciting about getting stuff in the mail.

Now THAT'S a nice package.

Doll Complete

Later I will post real quality pictures on Deviantart, Etsy and the like. Paige was going to photograph him tonight but the SCAD photo room was closed mysteriously. Go figure.

I also have written the story/description of Doll for anywhere I plan on posting him. Here it is:

GLAM FAIRY # 4: DOLL

Meet Doll. He’s just a sweet transvestite from New York that’s looking for a kiss. Formally known as Frank Fratelli, he was named after Frank Sinatra and has gone by many other names over the years. Among the members of the notorious and extended Fratelli family his nickname was Frankie. Despite how tough the family ‘business’ could get at times, Frankie’s skin was always so nice and smooth, his boyish face intact. For this reason he was often called Frankie Dollface, or sometimes just Doll for short. It has never been considered a good thing in the family to a pretty boy, but the Fratellis do take pride in their expensive suits and haircuts. Always looking professional no matter how dirty the job gets is a major aspect of the Fratelli creed. Doll just takes it one step farther by raiding women’s closets. He particularly loves shoes. I found him basking in my left shoe one day (I think he was attracted to the glitter) and he told me his life story. That is how I know his secret—that he is Frankie Dollface by day, and The Incomparable Doll by night in the local burlesque clubs. Now that you also know his secret I would suggest that you do not tell anyone else. Doll would not like to disappoint his mother and may be forced to make you say hello to his little friend.

Doll is number four in my Glam Fairies series. He is sculpted out of a special mixture of Studio by Sculpey and Sculpey III polymer clays over a strong metal armature. He is six and a half inches long in his reclining position and would be approximately eight inches tall if he were standing. Doll’s dark brown eyes are made of glass. His platinum blonde hair is extremely soft and fine because it is made from a cultivated silk brick. His skin has been lightly blushed with Genesis paints, his tattoos then inked in acrylic. He has a large heart on his left pectoral that reads “Ma”, knuckle tattoos that read “Dollface”, and a Rocky Horror style prison tattoo on his right thigh. The signature red kiss of Quarley that identifies him as a one-of-a-kind edition to the Glam Fairies line is located on his right cheek (no, not on his face.) Doll is wearing a real corset that has been crafted from leather. His undies are black vinyl; his garter belt and fishnets are recycled lace and tulle. Doll’s wings are made of pretty much all of the above and are flexible so that they can wrap around him while he is resting or unfurl when he is ready for flight. Doll’s shoes are Barbie heels that have been painted and modified to suit his needs. In his left hand he holds a feather fan and in his right hand he wields a whip. Doll comes with a ticket of authenticity that has been autographed by the artist and a copy of the original sketch when he was still in the design phase. He is very talkative and would like to share his story with whoever adopts him, or whoever will listen to him. He has pretty much moved into my shoe by now and has even constructed a makeshift bed out of an old feather boa from one of his performances. I would ask him to leave, but I don’t want to die.

UC MY BLOG?

Yeah...blogs are lame, but as time went by I came to the realization that I have got to get one. I mean, other than that screechy-whiny thing I have on Myspace of course. That one can continue to mark the progress of my mental instability, this one can be an in-progress of actual, 'legitimate' artwork. I am used to keeping physical journals and have done nearly all my life, complete with hand-drawn illustrations of every day's oddities. Unfortunately, those take a lot longer to write, don't include the option of posting images of my stuff, and don't get me nearly as much attention. I do love attention. So there you have it--modern world 1, old world 0. Drat again.

Anyway, as far as this blog having a point goes, I did recently complete some artwork. As a reward for Martyn for his pimping of my portfolio website I promised him a drawing of whatever his heart desired. Apparently his heart desired me to draw a group shot of the famous Fab Four. That seemed like a fairly normal request, the Beatles maniac that he is. However, nothing is ever normal with Martyn, and he told me that he wanted them all to be morbidly obese and called the Flab Four ("the all-fat-guy-Beatles-tribute-band.") I sighed, did the drawing, and when I presented it to him he simply could not stop laughing. Like for five minutes. He really has a mental deficiency. I would post the drawing in this blog but I made the mistake of not scanning it first and leaving it up to him to email me the file. He hasn't done it yet because he is probably still laughing. Ah well, another time, I promise.

I also need to get a photo of a sculpture I completed late last night. I knew that Paige wanted a fairy from me for her birthday so I drew up a few designs in my sketchbook and let her pick one. She chose a hideous winged creature that was strongly based on her hideous cat, Stella. I finished it around one in the morning, which is coincidentally the same time that Paige and Hutch arrived at my house to stay the night because of a massive fire that broke out in the street near where they live and caused all of the power to go out in their area. I sort of just handed the thing to her as she came in the door without photographing it first, but luckily Paige happens to be a photographer, so I'm sure that something can be arranged.

What I do have are pictures of some other drawings by Martyn's request that are theoretical sketches of what Marc Bolan might have looked like if he had not had the accident and was still around today. He would have been sixty-one years old.

That's not a tie, it's one of those riding scarves that people used to wear driving around the turn of the century--those are cool. He actually looks a bit pissed off to me, which isn't very him, so I also decided to make a less serious version:

Now he's wearing that ridiculous unicorn shirt from Threadless.com. I don't know how plausible that is, but it seems to suit him somehow.

I guess I might as well post my other fairy sculptures here too, even though it's been over a month since I finished the last one. For those of you that don't know, I'm working on a series of polymer OOAK (that's ebay for one-of-a-kind, or no molds used) fairy figures that are based on 70's rock and alternative fashion. I call them Glam Fairies, although not all of them are Glam and not all of them are really fairies. I just liked the name. This is the first one I made, the Ziggy Fairy:

The idea is that he's not really Ziggy, he's just a fairy impersonating him because fairies like rock and roll and are possibly the inventors of Glam Rock (which would explain why it is so sparkly.)

Then there is Puke, the Unidentified Flying Bastard:

He prefers his beer bubble-side down and uses his magic spittle to reverse the polarity of the drink so that the foam is on the bottom. Unfortunately his spittle also contains a mild toxin that ensures that if your beer is the unfortunate one he chooses to drink from, it will be your last of the night before running off to the toilet.

And lastly there is Hickey, "The World's Smallest, Dumbest Groupie":

She steals lipstick out of purses, wears entirely too much of it, commonly mistakes people for her favorite rock stars, and then leaves a trademark greasy stain on the neck to distinguish her love from the affections of other groupies. The mark bears her name and is impossible to remove for several days or even cover up with concealer.

Well I guess that's it for now. I also have an Etsy store:

Check that out while you're waiting for me to post those other things I mentioned. So...um...bye!
